About Group Generator

Group Generator is a free toolbox for teachers: a random group generator, a name picker with a fair-queue option, a projector-ready classroom timer and a spinning wheel — the four tools that cover a lesson's group-work arc, from splitting the class to choosing who reports back.

Why this toolbox exists

The existing classroom tools tend to fail teachers in one of two ways: they are fossils that never met a smartphone, or freemium apps that put the useful part (saving your class lists) behind a login and a subscription. This site is the third option — modern, mobile-first, and genuinely free. The features other tools charge for are free here, and the whole site works without an account because there is nothing to log into.

What it believes

Three principles shape every page. Local by default: class lists, saved groups and picker queues live in your browser on your device — nothing is uploaded, which is also the right posture for student data. Free means free: no premium tier, no watered-down mode, no countdown before the tool works. Honest mechanics: the randomness is real, the balance feature does what it says, and the guides recommend structures with classroom evidence rather than folklore.

The site is maintained by an independent builder and was last reviewed on October 13, 2026. Feature requests and bug reports are welcome on the contact page.
